December 2015 – Wi$e Up!

We can’t get to where we are going until we know where we want to go and have a plan in place to get there.

Our Journey to Financial Well-Being will include tips and tools you can utilize to reduce your debt and increase your savings.  This month we will offer some tips from “feedthepig.org” that will show you how small changes can lead to BIG CHANGE in your pocket! These tips are just in time to get a head start on our New Year Financial Resolutions.

Weekend Tripper

  • Plan ahead! Airfare and hotels are cheaper when booked in advance.
  • If possible, plan vacations during off-seasons.
  • Stay in accommodations with kitchens. Cook dinner most nights, saving dining out for a few special evenings.
  • Lunch Lover
  • When you go out for lunch, order water instead of drinks. Restaurants make a lot of money from the high markup on beverages.
  • If you can, store some food at work, like snacks, frozen entrees and canned soup. Leave them at the office so you’re not tempted to spend when you’re hungry.
  • Cook extra when you make dinner and freeze in individual containers. Take it out of the freezer the night before.
  • Clothes Clothes Clothes
  • Never buy clothes at retail price! If you see a “must have” in the store, note the label and style number, you can often find it cheaper online.
  • Bargain hunt and compare prices online. (Just watch out for hefty shipping and return fees.)
  • Shop at consignment stores. You can save big on designer items, and sell things you don’t wear anymore.
  • Dining Out
  • Avoid Appetizers; or, if out with friends, consider splitting one.
  • If you want to go out with a friend for a meal, try lunch instead of dinner – it’s almost always cheaper.
  • Instead of going out, cook at home with friends or organize a potluck.Check back to WRAC Facebook page for more Financial Fortitude tips!
